Follow in Roman footsteps

It is interesting to consider that the view from Domaine des Etoiles remains largely unchanged since Roman times when the village was the site of a Gallo Roman farmstead or villa. Settlers chose the natural defensive position on the hill top, within striking distance of the Via Domitia, the main trade route between Italy and Spain and colonised the area to exploit the natural potential of the land and climate to produce wine after the vineyards of Pompeii were destroyed in AD79.

It is rumored that there are over 1000 significant burials around Routier dating back to the Roman period, one of which was accidentally unearthed 25 years ago by a plough exposing a stone sarcophagus skeleton and grave jewelry and other grave goods.

The Romans brought the custom of cooking with olive oil to the region. Oh, and the fabulous wine! The Romans certainly understood the importance of relaxation. Domaine des Etoiles is the best place in the world for doing nothing, yet there is plenty to do.

Our Cottages are self-contained and offer a high standard accommodation for families, couples, groups or corporate occasions. Children are welcome and once they are tired of the pool there is a selection of games to keep them entertained. A cot, baby gate and high chair are available if needed.

Additional facilities are provided in and around the old winery building, where guests can lounge and relax on the large luxurious cushioned banquette on the shaded terrace, the perfect place for summer lunch or an evening aperitif. Enjoy the 10m x 5m outdoor free form swimming pool (which conforms to all of France's stringent safety regulations), or simply sit and enjoy the sunshine. Between the Terrace and the Pool area is an indoor recreation room with a table, tennis table, table football and toilets. There is a communal laundry room adjacent to the main house which has two automatic washing machines, iron & ironing board, along with an outdoor drying area.

You can walk or cycle for hours along the way marked foot paths that join Routier to the neighboring villages of Alaigne and Belveze, or go bird watching, or simply sit under the spreading acacia trees to plan your exploration of the area, sit and read or relax and listen to the sound of the stream & waterfall whilst enjoying the magnificent views across the enchanting countryside of the Aude towards the Pyrenees.

Steve has traveled widely during many years in the music business and knows first hand that it's attention to detail that makes a good holiday a great holiday. There are no extra charges at Domaine des Etoiles, bed linen and towels even beach towels are all included in the price.

There is no set change over day and no minimum stay, the price is per person plus a cleaning charge and there are special rates for longer stays and weekend breaks, which are possible in April, May and September.
